A Vision for Duluth Schools: Putting Students, Families, and Educators First

While on the Duluth School Board, I’m committed to working hand-in-hand with parents, teachers, and students to bring real, lasting solutions to the challenges our district faces. My goal is to support the district’s mission and vision while reinforcing its core values. I believe in fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture—where decisions are made with the community, not just for it.

One of my first priorities is to establish a Parent-Community Advisory Committee, ensuring that families have a formal, consistent voice in the district’s decision-making process.

I’ve been listening—attending school board meetings, visiting classrooms, and connecting with those most impacted: our educators, students, and families. If elected, I will continue this hands-on approach by conducting regular site visits and strengthening partnerships with ISD 709 leadership.

My Priorities and Initiatives:

  • Investing in Academic Achievement
Prioritize resources to boost performance in reading, math, and science, laying the groundwork for long-term student success.

  • Protecting Our Most Vital Resources—Our Students
Ensure every school is a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for both students and staff.

  • Improving Communication and Building Trust
Bridge the gap between the district and taxpayers by promoting transparency, increasing community engagement, and addressing the impacts of unfunded state mandates.

  • Offering Collaborative Solutions to Budget Challenges
Form a working group to evaluate district operations, eliminate inefficiencies, and focus funding on what matters most: classroom learning.

  • Restructuring Elementary School Schedules
Realign the elementary school schedule to better support classroom needs and reduce strain on teachers.

  • Promoting Student Growth and Wellness
Work with educators and administrators to support students academically and emotionally, nurturing their resilience and well-being.

  • Expanding Career Pathways for High School Seniors
Strengthen partnerships with the City of Duluth and the Duluth Chamber to create hands-on, real-world opportunities for students as they prepare for life beyond graduation.

Our children deserve the very best. That means respecting educators’ time, amplifying family voices, and making meaningful investments in every student’s future. Together, we can lead fair, effective, and lasting change in ISD 709.

Let’s build a stronger, more responsive, and welcoming school district—together.
